There is a saying that “how you radiate is what you attract”. In some languages this sentence even have a rhymes. It is this inner state that is very important for motivation in everyday life. It is not just about positive psychology, but also the state of mind.
We all find ourselves in a state of not knowing how to proceed. Events and people around us lead to a loss of motivation. It is not a question of someone having a depression either, but it is that we are simply satisfied with the current situation so we just go through life. Success requires constant progress. We should always have some new goal set in front of us. The goal is also to find a way to enjoy life.
Motivation as such carries within it the word “motive”, motive for something. To stay motivated we need to have some trigger. Something that leads us further, forward, towards progress. If you search the internet you will find many articles on how to motivate yourself.
How to motivate ourselves?
Motivation is the organization of self. The first thing for successful motivation is to set yourself a clear goal, e.g. passing a certain number of exams, doing a job important to me as possible stepping stone to move on to something else, or to make money. That goal needs to be visualized. One needs to think about how they would feel in achieving the goal … trying to imagine the situation in detail. Top athletes always imagine celebrating their victory before an important match. Second, it is to write down your goal in detail. Write with a pencil on paper. Some researches indicate that by using a pen and composing letters (writing), we engage more our brain to accepts goal information and influences our behavior toward accomplishment. The next step is to break down our goal in details and the steps that lead to its realization. The mind map tool can be used in this process. (Here we can imagine that our goal is actually project planning, our personal project). The next step, by developing a strategy, we know exactly what we need, but always, we should ALWAYS be ready to change the steps. Our path is never straightforward. There can always be situations that require a change of reaction. That must not frighten us in any way. We need to be prepared, so to speak, for Plan B. Next, we must by no means accept demotivation. It will happen that we feel defeated and that we feel we need to give up. But we must not accept that at all. By properly accepting that unforeseen situations are possible, our motivation for success will not wane. We need to put everything on the table, give everything we have on the go. The last in a series of very important drivers is to tell someone our plan. The very fact that someone else knows what our goal is and how we will achieve, is an additional motive for us.
Message to Take Away
The Dalai Lama said the most about motivation, in the least words. When asked what surprises him most in humanity, the Man itself, he replied. When asked why he said that, because he sacrifices everything in order to earn money, and then he gives all that money for his health. Then he is so upset with the thought of what will happen in the future that he does not live in the present. The result is that he lives neither in the present nor in the future. He lives as if he will never die, when in fact he dies without ever living.
Everyone is motivated by something else. If we have our own structure we will easily find a motif that we will put in the whole picture.
So let’s stay motivated.
