There is no that job that can be that hard if you are compensated adequately and appreciated equally for your hard work. Keeping motivation and spirit high at these crucial professionals is thankfully something that wise government acknowledges. Our work is important and we feel appreciated.
As hospital social worker, together with my colleagues nurses, occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, youth care counsellors, housekeeping staff, doctors and psychiatrist, we never stopped working. We were moved around to work in different units, with covid patients and their families, with children in acute psychiatric unit and their families and back to community to do community work. We have been working under masks, goggles, yellow gowns … providing encouragement to the most vulnerable while we needed encouragement at the same time. We were asked to wisely use PPE, but to also take good care of ourselves in order to protect us and others, mostly patients and their families. We have cried, we have been upset, but we also laughed, to tears sometimes, and enjoyed all snacks, food and free coffee that supporters from community have been and still continue to send us. And today we received another acknowledgment:
“BC’s frontline health and social service workers will get temporary pandemic pay to recognize their incredible efforts during this crisis. Eligible frontline workers will receive a lump-sum payment directly from their employer. Thank you for all you do.”

This is amazing and thank you Canadian government. Through this crisis, this goverment has been here for people and helped each and every member of community.
I do acknowledge that there are other professions as well that risk their lives and work hard such as supermarket staff and frontline workers. I hope that private business can follow the same example and reward their staff members in the way we are rewarded. We all made it together making sure that life never stops in society! THANK YOU ALL.
